Click picture to link to The Crow's Nest Facebook page

WHO:

Ashley & Michelle

WHERE:

Maplewood

WHEN:

Lunch

WHAT YOU GET:

An updated and larger selection of bar food with an artisan twist on plates that you can literally belly up to.  For real…see the picture below, yo.

THE EXPERIENCE:

The dark hipster bar has a cool decor that we didn’t really elaborate on before.  The pendant lights above the bar are recycled beer bottles…how cool is that!  We love the places that decorate creatively with repurposed things.  Everyone go hug a tree tonight, and while you are at it, hug your mom, too. The metal version of tropical ceiling fans always seem to catch Michelle’s eye, so we think it’s worth a mention. Retro rock posters line the wall, while a black and white foreign film is projected by the bar. The coolest new addition are the bi-fold vinyl record albums turned into the new menus!!! One more new thing added to the menu is the brain sandwich, which apparently is an exclusive South Side St. Louis “thing” we were not aware of. We are definitely not brave enough to try it, but read more about it (BRAINS! St. Louis-Style) and maybe you’ll be.

Grilled Cheese with French Onion Soup

Ashley’s Rating:

Flawless – This grilled cheese makes me want to touch myself.  Nuf said.

Fabulous – The French onion soup was so good that I used my straw to get every last bit of it out of the crock.

Michelle’s Rating:

Ambrosial! Fresh, buttery, toasted bread….check. Just the right amount of cheese…..check. Apple compote….heck yes! Sweet and savory!

Special of the Day – Sesame Chicken Flatbread with Cilantro

Ashley’s Rating:

Fine – I liked this but I was too involved in my grilled cheese to let anything else really shine.

Michelle’s Rating:

Amazing! I am convinced you can put cilantro on anything! This is the perfect light lunch with lots of flavor. My only complaint is that was a little dry….more sauce please!

Waffle Fries (We missed these last visit)

Ashley’s Rating:

Fabulous – I really love these, they are great and are awesome with or without sauce and I like to dip my fries in sauce!

Michelle’s Rating:

Awesome! Don’t forget some aioli for dipping.
