To be completely honest, we had been excitedly planning our whole day around going to another Soulard restaurant for supper. For one reason or another that particular place isn’t serving food on Monday’s. Several bar patrons there suggested going to Sassy Jac’s, saying it was a new place and totally worth a try. We were hesitant, mainly as already mentioned we had literally planned out our dinner and had been talking about it all day. Luck was on our side as Sassy Jac’s delivered just what we needed. Friendly service, a small menu of great options and a setting where we could take a kiddo.
WHAT YOU GET:
A petite menu of – let me just quote their website “Southern flare in food, bringing great home-cooked, family feel-good, southern food to your table”. That pretty much says all you need to know.
Fried Pickles Appetizer (should be 5 pcs. but 2 were snatched before I remembered to take a picture)
Fine – these little guys were tasty, a nice fresh breading, piping hot and served with BBQ and Ranch for dipping.
Chicken & Andouille Club – Grilled Chicken, Andouille, Fontina & Sweet Corn Aioli with a side of Cheesy Grits
Fabulous – This was so freaking fantastic, it made my night. The andouille was thinly sliced and crispy from being grilled (I assume) and the fontina was melty and the chicken so tender and juicy. If you are hankering for a chicken sandwich with a twist, this is the one to seek out! As for the grits, I have never met a grit that I liked until that moment. These were as perfect as grits can be. Cheesed to perfection and just down right good. I don’t know how they do it.
Blackened Grouper Sandwich – Lettuce, Tomato, Onion & Remoulade with a side of Cheesy Grits
Fine – This was a beautiful piece of blackened fish, just look at that coloring! It was pretty dang yummy and spiced just right however took home a second place ribbon when compared to that chicken sandwich. Even though it didn’t take first place, I totally recommend it.
Crawfish Salad Sandwich – Creamy Crawfish Salad with Lettuce, Tomato and Prosciutto with a side of Garlic Fries
Fabulous – I only got a taste of this wonderfulness and OMG was it good. I kind of was unsure of what to expect. I think the only fish salady thing I could think of was Subway’s crab salad or whatever it is, geeeewww. IT WAS NOTHING OF THE SORT. This was fresh and home-made and all things good. The fries had minced garlic all over them, yum, this is a garlic lovers dream.
“damn it’s so good”
JJ – “don’t eat all my grits”
Me – “you don’t like grits do you?”
JJ – “no, I hate grits”
Me – “yeeaahh”
